GERK
GERK (http://rkg.gov.si/GERK)
Purpose of the project is establishment of Graphical Units of Agricultural Land (in Slovene: GERK), which serve as a core for European Union's agriculture subsidies. Application was developed for Slovenian MAFF. Main principle is to define location and area of unified piece of agricultural land with same land use, which is cultivated by one farmer on the base of aerial digital orthophoto images of Slovenia. GERK is a web application written in Java programming language, which allows more users (collaborators from MAFF, Agricultural Advisory Service, Administrative Units and local Geodetic Services) to work on the same database via internet or intranet. We developed a  system of servers and connections that allows several hundred users use application online. Application allows user entering and reshaping vector polygons with immediate topology check, entering attribute data (domestic land name, comments of collaborator and farmer, land use), analyzing and manipulating data, searching GI database, handling and printing final report on meeting. Application uses and manipulates data from several external databases via internet, including Registry from Agency for agricultural market and agricultural politics and Permanent crop and vineyard registry. Three other applications were developed to complement GERK application. First application allocates farmers to collaborators. This application was necessary because of the great number of farmers (over 70000), which have to be handled in eight month. Application allows also analysis of the work done, for individual collaborators as for organizations (MAFF, Agricultural Advisory Service, Administrative Units and local Geodetic Services). Second application is called Support Center, and it is designed to help collaborators at their work. Third application is GIS web viewer. It is primary designed for farmers to view GIS data: digital cadastral parcels layer, land use layer and entered GERK layer. Application has a free access and is not password protected.

The GERK software system solves several problems:

LANDUSE
LandUse is an application, which is used by users in Slovenian Ministry of agriculture, food and forestry (MAFF) to create and maintain a land use database of Slovenia at bases of aerial digital orthophoto. Client-server architecture allows multiple concurrent users to share same database. Application main features are editing of vector polygons with immediate topology check, entering attribute data, analyzing and searching GI database, handling and printing maps and data connected to agricultural land use. Application is installed on MAFF server. Technologies used: Java, ORACLE, CORBA, client-server architecture, Java Web Start.

KATMESINA
The purpose of the KatMeSiNa Web Application (available on-line [4]) project was to create of a web GIS application, which would allow reading cadastral parcels data which are in reclamation by drainage, their geo location in aerial orthophoto images, processing and maintaining Drainage Systems in Slovenia. Application is programmed in HTML/JSP/JAVA programming language and allows drawing and reshaping parcels in individual drainage system, access to all documents related to drainage (location permit, ownership…), data of person in charge, commune data and cadastral commune data. Application allows also printing graphic and attribute data of individual drainage system. Application is designed for users on MAFF and for collaborators at administrative units, who deal with drainage systems.

Technologies used in the project: Java, ORACLE, CORBA, client-server architecture, grid computing, Java Web Start
