It is one of humanities most noble causes to search for viable alternatives to fossil fuel to meet the energy needs of current and future generations. Particle accelerator technology comes in sight for some of the pursued avenues, for example for fusion reactors and accelerator driven systems (ADS).

Since 2008 Cosylab has been delivering services to the ITER project. The purpose of the ITER project is to demonstrate the feasibility of nuclear fusion as an energy source. The machine is currently under construction in Cadarache in the south of France and is planned to deliver first plasma in 2025.

Since 2013 Cosylab has delivered consultancy services to the Myrrha project at the SCK.CEN in Belgium. Myrrha is an ADS that is designed to work in subcritical and critical mode (Myrrha website)
