A motion control system is being developed by Cosylab for monitoring controlling, and operating the Laser Heater Undulator. This device is a part of a bigger free electron laser (FEL) system that is being built for Sinchrontrone Trieste in Italy (Elettra). A combination of Siemens components (SIMATIC PLC and SINAMICS motion controller) provide the backbone of the hardware configuration. Communication with the outside world will be managed over the Ethernet connection and also with the touch panels connected directly to the Siemens MPI bus for local control and monitoring.
